When the owners of Flow Aesthetics, a renowned facial aesthetics company in Plymouth, decided to expand into hair styling, Identity Studio was brought on board to create an engaging, youthful and gender-neutral brand for their new venture in the premises next door – Bobo Hair Lounge.

Bobo Hair Lounge aimed to stand apart from its parent company by attracting a younger, fashion-forward clientele, notably targeting Plymouth’s student population, without alienating the potential client-tap from Flow Aesthetics.

The brand needed to resonate strongly with style-conscious customers, while being inclusive and welcoming to all genders, whether for hair styling or hair systems.

Our Approach

Identity Studio began with comprehensive research into top salons, both nationally and locally, assessing visual identities that resonated well within the market. Drawing inspiration from dynamic, trendsetting London salons, and vibrant local competition, we crafted a fresh, bold identity that exuded confidence and creativity.

The logo selected by the client was the ‘Funky Quiff’ design—a playful yet stylish emblem that communicates the salon’s youthful energy and creativity, while still being friendly and welcoming. The bold lines and dynamic curves of the logo perfectly capture Bobo Hair Lounge’s lively personality.

Salon Frontage Design

A critical part of the branding project was visualising how the salon’s external appearance could bring the new identity to life. Our concept for the salon frontage now features prominently on Mayflower Street, Plymouth, echoing the bold and playful spirit of the chosen logo. The frontage leverages the striking features of a ‘living wall’ and prominent signage to create maximum visual impact, successfully drawing the attention of passers-by and potential customers.

 

Inspiring the Client

As the inside of the premises was entirely empty, Identity Studio created design concepts and a Pinterest board to aid inspiration for the client’s interior design plans, and to show how the new brand could work within the salon. Using a simple palette of black, natural wood, with the addition flashes of green planting, we’re delighted that the client implemented many of these ideas to complement the branding concepts.

Ready for Launch

The chosen identity and salon frontage have been warmly received and gained excellent press coverage at the salon’s launch, enabling Bobo Hair Lounge to establish itself quickly within the local market as a contemporary and inclusive space. The impactful frontage not only increased visibility but also positioned the salon as a vibrant and exciting addition to Plymouth’s thriving wellness and beauty sector.
